Arrival!! (Turn 0)

Finally, all the low pay, hard work, late night, early morning jobs I had done over the years, all the sleeping under little shelter on a windswept stormy street had finally come to fruition. I'd managed to save enough to leave this decaying, rotten land and hopefully start a new life in a new world.

I am Darioc Lathdei, an elf of four score years and three and finally I had put aside enough to pay for my passage on the Prism, a galleon that would carry me, and a hundred or so others, to my future and hopefully my fortune. All I could afford to take with me across the blood sea was my fathers old rusty sword and clothes that could be described as little more than rags but, as the captain set anchor, I jumped ashore with eagerness and little foreboding, for I had finally arrived in the land of legend. I has finally set foot upon Lagas.

Now was not the time to stand still, I was amongst the first and wanted to get ahead of the others so I pushed on into the forest that ran along the edge of the golden sands of the shore. All this wood could be useful to make tools and weapons but I must push on, no time to waste.

In no time at all a mountain looms from amongst the trees and the terrain becomes much rockier. I could probably fashion a stone dagger of sorts, I'd imagine this would be use full in all kinds of situations, both to defend myself and create further tools, but again I press on. Then I see it, though whether it's a blessing or not remains to be seen. A small cave, should I investigate? No time, I can always return later and my stomach has other priorities, I must eat soon if my time in this land is to last beyond my first day. I spend time composing myself and cleaning up the small cuts I have obtained from the thick foliage in the forest so, whilst the hunger still haunts me, I feel stronger.

I wander onto bleak heathland and sat upon it is an almost derelict farm building and, by the look of the smoke rising from the chimney, someone may live there! Will they be friendly and cook for me or will they want to cook me? As I contemplate heading up the path and knocking on the door I'm distracted by an aggressive little Atongo. Pah, I stamp it into the floor with no real effort, if this is all I have to fear in Lagas I have little to worry about.

I notice something over on the horizon and I quickly forget of the farm and run over to see what it is. An old rotting wooden sign, parts of it unintelligible, the weather has taken it's toll, but I can make out most of what it says:
"My dear ......You can find the ....... cottage, the home of ..v......., if you go 9 yaacks to e.ast and 7 yaacks to north ! He is .......... for you !Best regards, ..a.....grin´"

I will defiantly follow these directions over the coming weeks, my curiosity eats at me, but for now I walk east into a wonderful peaceful meadow. The calm is soon shattered as a strange looking creature heads toward me, it's intentions clearly not honourable! Looking much like a rubbery caterpillar, roughly 1m long, with needle like teeth and covered in strange spores, it can only be a Gummy Grub. I quickly gather my wits, draw on my magical training and fire a magic missile at the beast. Although the hideous grub winces in pain it keeps coming, opens its grotesque mouth and whips me with it razor sharp tongue. Ignoring the blood that is now seeping from the fresh cut on my arm I fire off another missile, but still the creature advances and whips me again. We trade blows for a while but it soon becomes apparent there can be no winner in this contest and we both retreat to tend to our wounds. Clearly the land of Lagas has greater dangers that an Atongo and as such I spend time thinking of ways to heal myself better.

After a while I continue my journey moving into another area of scrubland, but I can't shake the hunger pains and as I dream of a nice hot meal and strange little creature jumps on me and starts licking my wounds. My first instinct is to brush it off and stomp it, much in the same way as the Atongo, but it is so soothing and some of my cuts even begin to heal. This must be one of the fabled Death-Eaters and my first friend upon these isles!

With the help of the Death-Eater my mood improves but, as I wander along in a haze, my life almost end as I stop just short of falling down an almost bottomless cleft! I warm breeze emanates from below in the emptiness, I can neither see nor hear anything and without a rope I can not lower myself down and see what awaits me down there.

Leaving the cleft behind I head into another meadow and, as with the first, another predator of the land approaches me. Is it a large spider of some kind, no it's a filthy Treecreeper. Again I sue my ability and fire of a magic missile but again, although inflicting some damage the creature continues to advance, spitting acid at me when it gets within range. However, it only manages to spit its vile fluid at me once more, as two more magic missiles finally put paid to it's pitiful life. My first substantial victory, but I don't feel like celebrating, I only wish to eat.

I can go on no longer without food so spend some time foraging and manage to get together enough to serve as a veritable feast! I know sustenance may be sparse so I don't eat it all, just enough to satisfy my stomach, who's needs are answered at last.

In addition to the help of another Death-Eater I tend to my wounds and as the sun begins to go down I set up camp and soon pass into a deep sleep with thoughts of my first day in Lagas playing on my mind. I'm glad I came
